Living by the Black Sea sounds wonderful, doesn't it? Sea views, beautiful surroundings, a slower pace of life...
And yes, Balchik has all of that. But there's more to this little town than what you see in holiday photos.
I live here myself, and over time I've discovered that Balchik has many beautiful sides, but also a few things you need to get used to.
It's a place where everyday life feels different. Where the seasons really change the atmosphere and where living year-round is quite another experience from spending a summer holiday.
And that's exactly what I'd like to share with you. Not just the picture-perfect moments, but what life here can actually look like.
Your Next Place
One of the things I appreciate about Balchik is its simplicity. You have supermarkets, local shops, pharmacies, restaurants and most of what you need for everyday life.
The sea is never far away, distances are relatively short and life generally moves at a different pace.
But living in a smaller town also means making a few compromises.
For certain shops, services or a wider choice of activities, you'll need to head to Varna or Dobrich. And while Balchik can be lively during summer, winter tells a completely different story.
Restaurants close, the streets become quieter and the town settles into its own rhythm.
Personally, I think that's something worth experiencing before deciding whether Balchik could be your next home.
Because falling in love with a place during your holidays is one thing. Actually living there is another.
