In late 2025 I arrived in Bulgaria through a simple house-sitting agreement with Venke. She was away for long periods and needed someone to stay in her home.
Our agreement was straightforward:
if it didn’t work between us — or between the dogs — I would simply go back home, to Belgium.
But it worked.
And that experience made me realise something: there are many homes that stand empty for months, and many people looking for a place to stay longer than a holiday.
That simple situation became the starting point for Your Next Place.

Care for homes.
Living differently.
In October 2025 I had an idea that sounded a bit unusual.
I wanted to spend more time abroad. Not as a tourist, but to experience daily life in another place — slower, closer to nature, and with a different rhythm.
My husband stayed in Belgium because of his work, but he gave me the freedom to try it. We only had one clear agreement: I could follow this adventure, but I couldn’t touch our savings.
So the question became simple.
How do you live somewhere else without renting or buying a place?
That’s when Venke entered the story.
Venke owns a house in Bulgaria but spends long periods abroad. Her home would otherwise stand empty. We agreed that I could stay there while she was away, simply taking care of the house and living there temporarily.
Our only rule was very simple:
if it didn’t work between us — or between the dogs — I would just go back home.
But it worked.
Living here made me realise something obvious that I had never really thought about before: there are many homes that stay empty for months because their owners live elsewhere. And at the same time, there are people looking for a place to stay longer than a holiday — quietly, respectfully, and without the pressure of buying immediately.
That’s where the idea for Your Next Place started to take shape.
Not as a traditional real estate platform, but as a way to connect people and homes in a more practical and human way.
Because sometimes the most interesting opportunities appear when a simple experiment turns out to work.

Living here changed my perspective on what a “place to live” can mean.
In many countries houses stand empty for long periods because their owners live elsewhere. At the same time, many people are exploring a different lifestyle — spending longer periods in other places before deciding where they truly want to settle.
What if those two realities could meet?
Your Next Place grows from that simple idea: creating opportunities for people to stay in real homes, for longer periods, while owners know their house is lived in and cared for.
Not as a classic real estate model, but as a more human and flexible approach to living.

Bulgaria revealed something many people are quietly looking for: space, nature and a slower rhythm of life. It’s a place where living costs are still accessible and where exploring a different lifestyle becomes realistic rather than just a dream.
For many people, it becomes a first step toward living abroad.
Your Next Place starts with connecting people and homes in a simple way.
Over time, it may also grow into small communities where people can stay longer, share spaces and explore a different way of living, closer to nature, with more independence and flexibility.

Your Next Place connects people and homes in a simple and practical way.
Some people are looking for a place to stay longer than a holiday, to explore a region, work remotely, or experience daily life somewhere new.
Others own a home that stands empty for part of the year and prefer knowing that someone trustworthy is living there.
And some owners simply have a second home they would like to rent out long term to the right person.
Your Next Place helps create those connections in a practical and personal way.
On my YouTube channel I share the places I discover, the realities of living here, and the small moments that make this part of the world so special — from nature and local food to practical insights about life in Balchik.
